Eritrea: Eritrea Festival 2007 At National Level Concludes

Asmara — The colorful Eritrea Festival 2007 at national level concluded yesterday with the handing of prizes to winning regional administrations and individual citizens.

Ministers, Regional administrators, other government officials and invited guests, as well as representatives of regional administrations attended the closing ceremony. The Festival from July 28 to August 5 featured sites of regional quarters, children's corner, educational and documentation presentations, drama shows, films, painting, photography, works of handicraft, traditional sports competitions, poetry recitals, short stories and the like.

The Ministers of Labor and Human Welfare and Education, Ms. Askalu Menkerios, and Mr. Semere Russom, respectively handed prizes to the winners of different activities.

Moreover, top 10 songs out of a total of 207 that were produced from mid 2006 to 2007 were awarded prizes, while the song by Yohannes Tikuabo "Yigermena Alo" stood first, and the one by Dawit Teklesenbet (Shilan) "Kisab Lomi" stood second, while a third song in Saho by Mohammed Nur Omar "Yinaneyiro" won third prize.

Furthermore, Gash-Barka region took the trophy for this year's Festival including that of education, five types of traditional sports and discipline, while the Southern region took one for folk dances, exhibition and the traditional game of Gebeta. Besides, the Southern Red Sea region won trophy for a show of traditional dwellings and life styles and the Central region took one for the traditional game of Teweset, as well as the Northern Red Sea region won prize in the game of Kils.

In addition, dramas that were staged during the Independence Day celebrations titled Tsihifto Hanetai by Michael Adonai and Bedela by Mokonnen Kidane stood first and second respectively and were awarded prizes.
