Nigeria/Côte d'Ivoire: Vogts Rates Elephants Better Than Eagles

Lagos — Super Eagles manager, Berti Vogts has tipped Elephants of Ivory Coast ahead other African teams in the continent as favourites to reach the finals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Vogts said in an interview with FIFA.com said the Elephants captained by Chelsea hit-man, Didier Drogba are by far the strongest team in Africa at the moment.

"I think Côte d'Ivoire are by far the strongest team in Africa right now. They can make it to the semi-final. And then I see Ghana, Nigeria and Cameroon on a par with each another," said Vogts.

He added that the African top teams can record success in 2010 if only their coaches are allowed to work on their own terms.

Vogts said it was painful that he missed the Canada 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, where Nigeria was cruelly bundled out by Chile in the quarter-final.

"I did book a flight so that I could be there for the semi-final and the final, but Chile put paid to that with their 4-0 extra-time victory over our Nigerian youngsters.

" It was a pity and a real blow to us, as the lads emerged not only as excellent individuals, but also as a great team. I can only say that they did themselves proud"
