Bujumbura — The Burundi ruling party, CNDD-FDD has nominated Leonce Ndarubagiye as its spokesman. Leonce Ndarubagiye is known in Burundi political scene since 1993. He was nominated as the governor of Maramvya province by president Melchior Ndadaye after Frodebu won the elections in october 1193.
After the assassination of president Ndadaye, Leonce Ndarubagiye took refuge as he was among others, on Burundi's army most wanted list for having defended democracy. Exiled, Leonce Ndarubagiye joined Nyangoma's CNDD but left it shortly after its plit to join the newly formed wing CNDD-FDD.
With the current internal divisions within the ruling party and corruption cases which characterize the current government, Mr. Ndarubagiye will be challenged to revive CNDD-FDD reputation which has been on backslide since the February 2007 extra-ordinary congress that saw the ousting of the former CNDD-FDD grandee, Mr. El Hadj Hussein Radjabu.
