Burundi: Frodebu Recommends the Resumption of Negotiations With Palipehutu-FNL

9 August 2007

Bujumbura — The leader of Frodebu party, Mr. Léonce NGENDAKUMANA, held a press conference today in which he recommended the Head of State to resume negotiations with FNL-PALIPEHUTU. He mentioned that the Head of State plays a major role in the current institutional crisis. â-šHe violates articles of the constitution," indicated Mr. NGENDAKUMANA while emphasizing that the head of State does not take into consideration advice that he is given by opposition parties.

Léonce Ngendakumana indicated that his party is still open to negotiations with the President Nkurunziza, however he advised him to stop the campaign against members of the Parliament.

Frodebu considers that current cabinet is unconstitutional on the ground that there were no enough political consultations prior to its appointment. This created the current crisis which continues to escalate although president Nkurunziza tries to minimize by claiming that there are members of the parliament who do not work while they enjoy a great number of advantages.
