Eritrea: First National Conference On the Tigre Language Concludes Adopting Resolutions And Recommendations

Asmara — The First National Conference on the Tigre language under the theme "Uniform Use of the Tigre Language in the Media" concluded adopting resolutions and recommendations.

In the conference in which several journalists, writers, artists and concerned individuals, as well as regional representatives took part, different research papers highlighting the background of the Tigre language in the media, the challenges which Dimtsi Hafash met to adopt correct application of the language and the problems encountered in the writing and reading of this language were presented. The participants also held in-depth discussions on the papers presented.

Speaking at the closing session, the Head of Organizational Affairs at the PFDJ, Mr. Abdalla Jabir, expressed appreciation to the organizers and participants of the conference. He further stressed the need for adopting scientific methods in the efforts being made to develop national languages in an organized manner.

The participants adopted a number of resolutions and recommendations including the setting up of a committee that would follow-up the development of Tigre language in the media, publishing the important issues raised at the conference to be used as a guideline and reference in the media, as well as laying the groundwork for republishing and distributing previously printed books in the language.

It is to be recalled that President Isaias Afwerki opened the First National Conference on the Tigre language.
