Harare — MUSIC for the People - three classical music students from the United States of America - jetted into the country on Sunday for a second tour of Zimbabwe after their successful visit in July last year.
The trio - cellist Ryn Murphy, flutist Sarah Frisof and Dawn Smith, who plays the violin - are from the Julliard School of Music in Manhattan, New York.
During their two-week tour of the country, they will conduct musical workshops at Diggleford Primary School in Marondera as well as a music concert at Peterhouse College.
The concert is aimed at raising funds to buy musical instruments for the school.
On their visit last year, the outfit held classical music composition workshops at Mathew Rusike Children's Home and Alexandra Primary School in Harare.
Jayne During of Kuaba Human Foundation facilitated the trip while Dr Solomon Guramatunhu is hosting them.
Onias Horihwa and Ronald Badza of a Marondera-based arts and culture club, who are organising the workshops, said Rovambira Mbira Group from the town would collaborate with Music for the People for a video compact disc recording.
"Following last year's successful collaboration with Rovambira on stage, we believe it is high time we resurrected classical mbira blues and jazz pioneered by the likes of Taruwana Mushore," said Horiwa.
