Burundi: The New Chief Banker is From Frodebu Party

Bujumbura — Despite the political crisis between Frodebu and the ruling party, the newly appointed governor of the central bank, BRB, is from Frodebu. Gaspard Sindayigaya was a member of the national assembly elected in Rutana constituency.

He was appointed without any consultations with his political party. The vice president of Frodebu and former Vice-President of the Republic, Mr Frédéric Banvuginyumvira, indicated that Mr. Sindayigaya was appointed because of his know-how. The ruling party lacks people with experience, he added.

MP Gaspard Sindayigaya was appointed to replace Isaac Bizimana who is dogged by embezzlement charges in connection with the payment of the debt that the government of Burundi owed to Interpetrol company.
