Kampala — DICK Nyeko, the commissioner of fisheries, has projected an increase in fish export revenue this year. "Our fisheries industry is picking-up once again. By the end of this year, we should record more revenue," he said.

Nyeko said sh180b was expected from the domestic markets, while $57m would be generated from regional markets. He said the fight against illegal fishing gears would be intensified to ensure sanity prevailed on Lake Victoria.

Nyeko was closing a fisheries workshop for police and judicial officers at Ridar Hotel, Mukono. "We took tough measures and succeeded in fighting fish poisoning that almost caused the collapse of the industry in 1999. We haven't heard of it since then," he said. He said receipts dropped from $145m a year ago, to $143m during the first half of 2007.
