Zimbabwe: Agric Show Preps At Advanced Stage

17 August 2007

Harare — PREPARATIONS for the country's premier agriculture showcase, the Harare Agriculture Show scheduled to begin on August 27 are at an advanced stage with more than 450 stands already booked.

A survey conducted by this paper yesterday revealed that with only two weeks to go, most stands were at various stages of completion with exhibitors optimistic that this year's edition will attract many visitors.

Speaking to the Herald Business, the Harare Agriculture show spokesperson Mr Daniel Muhau said: "More than 450 stands have been taken up as preparation for this year's edition of the Harare Agricultural Show gathers momentum,".

The Harare Agricultural Show is the country's premier agricultural event which brings together, various stakeholders in the agricultural sector and the general public to mingle and share ideas on agro-businesses.

The agriculture show is also a platform where companies showcase some of their products and services and exhibitors effectively reach out to potential customers.

Notwithstanding the high inflationary environment, foreign currency and fuel shortages and poor performance of the agricultural sector in the past few years, the show remains one of the country's best examples of steadfast success.

This year's edition runs from August 27 to September 1 under the theme "Our Task to Feed the Nation, It is Time for Innovation."

The show had lost some of its glamour in the past few years due to the foot-and-mouth outbreak which resulted in the livestock section failing to exhibit. However, data is being collected on animals which might be on display.

"Their ability to do so will depend on their cattle being officially declared to be disease-free and being given regulatory approval to be transported.

Children will pay $50 000 at the gate on all days and will get in free when wearing school uniforms. Adults will pay $100 000 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday while on Wednesday and Friday it will cost $120 000 to gain entry.

On Saturday, however, adults will have to pay an entrance fee of $150 000.

Mr Muhau urged members of the public to come and support the show saying there would be adequate security provided by both show organisers and the police.

Exhibitors participating at this show range from bankers, miners, engineers and stakeholders in the agricultural sector.

Others include the police, the army and the prison services.
