Bujumbura — The Head of State, Mr Pierre Nkurunziza, launched the third edition of the Torch of Peace on 16 August 2007. This ceremony was launched in Bujumbura at the Place de l'Indépendance at 10 o'clock.

This torch will tour the whole country. The theme of this tour is â-šWhat is your contribution for peace and environment? "This torch will reach the province of Cibitoke today, 16 August 2007.

This edition that is intended to show that peace prevails in Burundi is launched when the political crisis is reaching its highest levels. The talks with FNL have not yet been resuscitated; the institutional impasse remains unresolved and a general insecurity provoked by armed gangs that have not yet been identified prevails in all provinces, a situation that gives no cause to celebrate.
