Zimbabwe: Classical Music, Doctor's Orders

Harare — A highly acclaimed classical music group from the United States' world-famous Julliard School of Music, in Manhattan, New York is set to give classical music lovers a treat of a lifetime at a concert to be held this Friday at the residence of Dr Solomon Guramatunhu.

The black tie and invitation only event is set to thrill up to about 60 "specially invited classical music lovers," with some world-renowned classical music. The classical music group is coming with perform in Zimbabwe as part of the international organization, "Music For The People."

The concert, dubbed "A Romantic Winter Soiree of Classical of Music," will be hosted by Guramatunhu's organisation Eyes for Africa in conjunction with Music for the People. The invited guests will taste a wide variety of Zimbabwean cheese, courtesy of Dairibord Holdings and a whole range of Zimbabwean wines, courtesy of Cairns Holdings.

This event was launched last year by founder and director of "Music for the people" William Harvey, a violinist and founder and chairman of Eyes for Africa, Dr Guramatunhu. The classical group is made up of Sarah Frisof on flute, Ryan Murphy on celo and newcomer to Zimbabwe Dawn Smith on viola.

Music for the People believes in positively changing the world through the power of music. Eyes for Africa believe the gift of sight is everyone's right regardless of one's economic, social, racial or religious status.

All proceeds from the concert will be donated to Eyes For Africa for their "restoring Africa's vision" programme, for performing free cataract surgeries on blind or at risk elderly people in rural areas.
