Nigeria: NSC Hails South West on NISONMG Games

Lagos — Director of Sports Development in the National Sports Commission, Mr. Patrick Ekeji has expressed the desire of the new Commission to extend its tentacles to every nook and cranny of the country to catch talents that could be developed not only for assignments at the national level, but also be beneficial to the Nigerian nation overall.

Ekeji, who was speaking at the closing ceremony of the Nigerian Schools of Nursing and Midwifery Games (NISONMG) for the South West Zone, organized by the South West Zone of the Commission, amidst fun and fanfare at the Main bowl of the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, expressed happiness at what he saw of the final day.

He, therefore, requested the organizers of the game to come up with requests on possible areas of assistance to sustain the games not only in the South West Sub-region, but in the entire country.

Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) won the Games with 26 medals, consiting 14 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze. The School of Nursing, Awolowo, Lagos placed secons with 8 gold, 4 silver and 8 bronze medals while the School of Nursing, Osogbo came third with 2 gold,4 silver and 6 bronze.

Eight Schools of Nursing and Midwifery within the Zone namely Ijebu Ode, Awolowo (Lagos) Osogbo, Akure, Ekiti, Abeokuta, Ogun State and Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Lagos participated in the Games. Outstanding athletes and schools were awarded certificates and prizes. The just concluded Games came 13 years after it was last held in the zone.
