Abuja — PEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) is set to mobilize Nigerians to support President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua's policies and programmes even as the federal government announced a target of 13 per cent economic growth rate for the country.
These were among major decisions reached at a three-day retreat held in Abuja for ministers, federal permanent secretaries and special advisers.
A communiqué issued by the participants said it was imperative for the ruling PDP to be in the forefront of mobilizing public support for the administration's policies.
The participants agreed on targeting "a 13 per cent national economic growth rate with stable and predictable macro-economic environment, developing human capital through education and health; devising special incentives to strengthen ties with trading partners and using aggressive diplomacy to attract foreign investments," as part of measures to achieve government's Vision 2020.
Aso Rock intends to fully implement the national budget and fund all projects on time and conclusively to avoid altercations between the Presidency and the National Assembly as witnessed in the previous administration.
It was also resolved that since the rule of law is vital to progress and national development, there will be "strengthening of institutions to encourage respect for rule of law and revamping, reorganizing and funding an effective and decent police force for providing the Judiciary with the necessary facilities to perform its duties effectively and efficiently.
"Reviving the tradition of projecting and celebrating national role models and the diligent enforcement of the code of conduct for public officers as enshrined in the Constitution and the establishment of religious and cultural values in school curricular," participants further resolved.
Besides, Nigerians in the Diaspora are to be targeted while the public is sensitized to the fact that security and stability should be the collective responsibility of all citizens and interest groups, not only that of the security agencies.
