Gambia: Melody Makers Set to Release Album

Another musical entertainment band in town for yuppies and aged is the Melody Makers Dance Band. It is a Nigerian highlife band that is composed of different nationalities from West Africa. The band has been playing in the Gambia since 2001.

They mostly play in night clubs and at social parties like weedings, naming, christening and house warming ceremonies

What's On had a chat with the group during one of their shows last Saturday at Saint Josesphs Hall in Banjul at the funeral party of Mrs Christy Aturu Ogwori, a party that attracted many poeple due to the lyrical content of the music.

The band leader, Olusegun Mathew explained that Melody Makers Band plays different kinds of music due to its collection of different nationalities. He continued that the band was made-up of Nigerians, Guineans, Gambians and Sierra Leoneans.

The band is now aspiring to release their new debut in few months time. According to Mr Mathew "we are working on our first album, which will come out very soon, it is almost at the finishing end."
