The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport police division in Abuja recently got a boost in its communication facilities and transport network when members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) donated a Peugeot 504 saloon car as well as GSM phones with lines to them.

The chairman of the PCRC, Chief Yakubu Musa, said the gesture was a result of the committee's resolve to assist the police in combating crimes.

He enjoined residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to emulate the PCRC airport division's initiative to make Abuja crimes-free.

"Security is no longer an exclusive affair of government. All hands must be on deck to ensure security as the police cannot succeed without support," he said.

Chief Musa said the car was purchased with the money contributed by individuals and corporate bodies that included Julius Berger plc.

Responding to the gesture, the divisional police officer of the airport division, Peter Yaro Thliza, described the PCRC as a good friend who knows the police's problems and goes ahead to solving them.

"You will agree with me that the gesture shown by the airport PCRC will in no small measure cushion our hardship in executing our statutory obligation to fight crimes within and outside our area of jurisdiction," he said.

He appealed to the public to feed the police with information about criminals that live in their midst.

"It is worthy to state that crime fighting should not be left for the police alone, as the police expect the public to provide useful information about criminals that live in their midst," he added.

Highlight of the event was the unveiling of the vehicle by the commissioner of police, Airport police command, A. B Ahmed.
