Harare — THE Zimbabwe Medical Association will hold its annual congress in the resort town of Victoria Falls tomorrow, Zima president Dr Paul Chimedza said yesterday.
This year's congress will be held under the theme "Non-Communicable Diseases, A Silent Epidemic" and ends on Sunday.
"This year, we decided to move away from HIV and Aids as the theme for the congress.
"Previously, we have focused on the pandemic yet there are other diseases that still remain major killers in the country such as diabetes, asthma and hypertension yet they can be managed and prevented," he said.
The congress convenor, Dr Raj Doolabh, said more than 200 doctors had already registered for the congress that will also be attended by medical practitioners from the Southern African Development Community.
"So far, more than 200 doctors have registered to attend the congress and we expect a few more to make last-minute arrangements to attend. We are also expecting a sizeable group of doctors from Zambia, Namibia and South Africa to attend the congress where there will be an exchange of information and ideas on several issues," he said.
Dr Doolabh said the Governor of Matabeleland North province, Cde Sithokozile Mathuthu, was expected to open the congress.
The Minister of Health and Child Welfare, Dr David Parirenyatwa, was scheduled to attend the congress along with other senior ministry officials.
