The President of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) Cllr. S. Izetta Wesley has been speaking on some important issues relative to the development of football in the country.

Speaking over the weekend to reporters, the FA President disclosed plans for the rehabilitation of the ATS. She said FIFA has promised to underwrite the cost of replacing the old artificial carpet at the ATS with a modern one. The President noted that changing the turf on the stadium is very necessary because it has outlived its usefulness.

Cllr. Wesley clarified that the Kakata football field project is not a Goal Project but rather, the project is named "Win in Africa, for Africa." She stated that FIFA is carrying out similar projects in other African countries so that Africans can benefit from the hosting of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Commenting on Goal Project III for Liberia, the FA boss said, the association has acquired a land in Careysburg where a sport facility would be erected. She said the facility will comprise of offices, training ground for coaches, referees, sport medic center, internet, telephone and other modern facilities to enhance the functions of the local football governing body.

Speaking further, the FA President said, she sees the Ministry of Youth and Sports as a partner in progress and as such, the FA will always be willing to work with them noting "I do not see any reason for which an individual club would choose not to cooperate with the Ministry of Youth and Sports because all of us are working towards the same goal, which is the development of football in Liberia."

Cllr. Wesley noted that this is not time for confrontation because it is an enemy of development, saying "so let us forget about the past and forge ahead."

Concluding, the President of the local football house pointed out that for the partnership to be strong and successful, "we must respect our partners and recognize the fact that everyone has his/her own statutory responsibilities. When this is observed, she noted that the development of football will be a reality.
