Burundi: House of the Frodebu Spokesman Demolished By the Police

22 August 2007

Bujumbura — In their attempt to arrest the spokesman of the Frodebu political party, Mr Pancrace CIMPAYE, the police are demolishing his house using building equipment. His house is located in Kigobe. His house was surrounded by the police early this morning. The police have already demolished the roof and doors. This arrest was ordered by the general prosecutor in the mayorship of Bujumbura. Some sources indicated that Mr Pancrace CIMPAYE has managed to escape. Reporters and human rights activists have been denied access to witness this arrest which turned out into a demolition.

This arrest is carried out in the wake of the attacks against some dignitaries of the opposition forum that was carried out by people who threw grenades on their houses located in Gihosha commune. The spokesman of Frodebu is alleged of holding uncalled for criticisms against the Head of State, to whom he alleged of â-šbeing behind these attacks."

Mr Pancrace CIMPAYE started having troubles with the police last year when other dignitaries including the former Head of State, Senator Ndayizeye Domitien, were arrested in connection with a coup which later was proved to be a fabrication of the ruling party.
