As part of its commitment to positively contribute to the development of the Nigerian economy, Starcomms Limited, Nigeria's largest CDMA 3G Mobile network, has extended its activities to more cities in the country.

Residents of the commercial nerve centres of the East, Onitsha and Aba have been hooked on to the Starcomms network. Also on the network is Asaba, the Delta State capital and Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, which were launched recently.

The three cities bring to nine the number of locations where Starcomms is fully operational.

The network currently exists in key cities like Lagos, Ibadan, Kano, Maiduguri and Port Harcourt while plans are at an advanced stage to link 30 more cities this year.

According to Mr. Maher Qubain, CEO Starcomms, the inclusion of these cities is a fulfilment of an earlier promise made in the first quarter of the year that more cities would start enjoying the unbridled Starcomms bouquet of products and services which includes superior voice clarity, access to the internet and a host of other benefits.

"What we have done is a fulfilment of a promise we made early in the year that more cities will be on the Starcomms network. Now the residents of these cities and those who may travel to the east can enjoy seamless communications which will bear the Starcomms trademarks of quality and clarity"' Maher said.

Starcomms has been firmly established as the largest CDMA 3G Mobile operator in Nigeria in terms of coverage, subscriber base, network quality and customer service delivery. The company, which was commercially launched in 1990, is nearing the 600,000 mark in its subscriber's base. Reliable sources indicate that the network is targeting to cross the 1 million subscriber base before the end of the year.

This is expected to be propelled by the deployment of its mobile lines - 07028 - which were activated in February and pushed sales to an average of 25,000 lines per day. Prior to this, the deployment of the CDMA 2000 1X EV-DO technology, the first of its kind in West Africa, and presently being deployed in the United States of America, which gives wireless access to the internet at the speed of 400-800kbps, opened unhindered access to the internet to most subscribers.

Starcomms last year introduced a new concept called 'The call of Freedom', at the official opening of its Ibadan network. 'The call of Freedom' affords the network's numerous subscribers the flexibility to enjoy numerous services such as per second billing, SMS, VAS, High Speed Internet, and Fun Box, among others.

Since the offering was introduced, Starcomms had given subscribers a variety from the array of innovative products at highly affordable rates, with a bouquet of mobile phones, desktops and Internet module. The management of Starcomms had then promised to extend 'The call of Freedom' to other states in the country, as it continues to expand its network to other major towns and cities across the country.

It has recently released the new roaming number series '07028' on its network enabling its subscribers to roam across its network. Last year, Starcomms opened additional Service Centres known as Starcomms Shops in some areas in Lagos, namely Ikotun-Egbe and Apapa, which brings to nine the number of such centres opened in Lagos area alone.

These shops are full service centres which provide total communication solutions for data, fixed wireless and mobile customers.
