Somalia: Radio Journalist Killed in Southwest

The National Union of Somali journalists (NUSOJ) is today appalled by the killing of Journalist Abdulkadir Mahad Moallim Kaskey of Radio Banadir. The late Abdulkadir, who was the regional correspondent of Radio Banadir in the southwestern province of Gedo, died after gunmen opened fire to the Minibus that he was riding in the early morning of Friday, 24 August 2007, in El Ilan village of the same region, according to fellow journalists in the province and Radio Shabelle. In this attack, other passenger was wounded.

The Management of Radio Banadir confirmed for NUSOJ the death of their reporter. The motive of the attack is still unknown. Family members, fellow journalists and friends buried Abdulkadir after Friday prayers in Bardhere district, the headquarters of Gedo.
