The police failed to apprehend Pancrace CIMPAYE, the spokesman of Frodebu, the main opposition political party. The search carried out by the judicial police on 22 August in the home of the spokesman yielded no results.

A computer, papers and tapes were confiscated by the police in order to be analyzed. The search was carried out in the absence of the lawyer of the spokesman, Fabien Segatwa, reporters and human rights activists who were all denied access to the house.

During the search, another unit of police surrounded the residence of the American ambassador. The spokesman of the National Police, Célius Ntarabaganyi, indicated that he was aware of this operation on the residence of the ambassador of the most powerful country in the world.
