Nigeria: 25 Percent Pay Rise for Kaduna Teachers

Abuja — Teachers in Kaduna Sate will now enjoy a 25 percent pay rise. This is five percent higher than the 20 percent pay rise approved by the state government for other workers in the state.

The State Deputy Governor, Mr. Patrick Yakowa announced this in Abuja at the weekend while fielding questions from newsmen at a summit for Good Governance for Governors, Deputy Governors, National Assembly Committee Chairmen and Speakers of State Houses of Assembly.

The summit was organised in Abuja by Ethics Resource Centre/Project Edge.

Yakowa said the pay raise would make workers more comfortable and reduce the temptation to steal from state treasury.

To guard against waste and corruption in the state, he said the state had established the due process office where all contracts and procurements must go through. The office would also save money for the state that would be used to provide more social amenities, he also said.

Yakowa said he benefited from the retreat, and that the knowledge gained would be applied in his sate anti corruption drive. Severe disciplinary action waits corrupt public officials in the state, he added.
