Nairobi — Kenya can benefit from the 2010 World Cup to be staged in South Africa. South African High Commissioner, Mr Tony Msimanga, has urged the country to take advantage of the good infrastructure connecting the two countries to reap from the soccer bonanza to be staged on Africa soil for the first time.
Msimanga said that being a four-hour flight destination from South Africa, Kenya was better placed to reap the benefits of the World Cup if it works closely with the host nation. Participating teams could train in Kenya, he said.
"God knows after how many years the World Cup will come to Africa again. We want all to benefit," said Msimanga.
Speaking in Nyeri, Msimanga said the two countries were working out programmes that would see them benefit economically during the 2010 World Cup finals. He said Kenya and South Africa were focusing on ways of reducing unnecessary competition between them in various sectors.
