Rwanda: Political Group Loads Campaign Video On YouTube Website

Kigali — The exile based party that hit the news recently over accusations against Rwandan Gen. Karenzi Karake has now taken its war of words to a video-sharing site YouTube with the hope to reach out to millions of people that access it everyday, RNA reports.

The Netherlands group United Democratic Forces FDU-Inkingi on Tuesday loaded a 9-minute video on www.youtube.com. The person that put the video is anonymous but it is indicated that the material comes from the party leadership with inscriptions in Kinyarwanda.

Founded in February 2005, YouTube is a site for people to watch and share original videos worldwide. YouTube allows people to easily upload and share short video clips onto the site watched free by anybody with an internet connection.

The site has grown quickly into one of the most popular websites on the internet. Estimates say it has 100 million videos viewed every day and an estimated 72 million individual visitors each month. Everyday, 65,000 new videos are uploaded.

In the video that features hard-talking FDU-Ikingi president Ms. Victoria Ingabire, various clips of scenes have been edited purportedly showing grave living conditions of people in Rwanda that the party says it could put right.

There is also an image taken from a prison facility in Rwanda, to illustrate the ineffectiveness of the judicial system in the country. However most of the roll time of the video covers a conference that the top brass of the part attended.

There also appears an image of President Paul Kagame - who the group - some of whose members stand accused of Genocide crimes in Rwanda, claim they want to oust from office.

FDU-Inkingi has been in the news recently following accusations in which they claim Rwandan army Gen. Karenzi Karake has blood on his hands - in am move that authorities in Kigali have described as baseless.

The African Union nominated Gen Karake as deputy commander of the new 22,000 strong Hybrid force for the troubled Sudanese region of Darfur. FDU-Inkingi claims the General does not deserve such an appointment.

The issue has however been complicated further by comments from the UN indicating it may not approve the appointment that easily.

Meanwhile, online search giant - Google bought the video-sharing website YouTube for $1.65billion in October last year.

YouTube was founded by youthful American Chad Hurley (31) along with Chinese-American Steve Chen (30) and East German born Jawed Karim now aged 29. All had been IT trained.
