Mauritius: Former general manager of ceb passed away

Port Louis — Mr RAJU RETNASAMI, the former General Manager (GM) of the Central Electricity Board (CEB), passed away on August 18th. He was 79 years old. Mr. Retnasami served the CEB from 1958 to 1993. He played a predominant role in the country's electric supply infrastructure development for 35 years.

Coming from a very modest upbringing, Mr Retnasami had to overcome incredible odds to reach his goals. An outstanding student at the Royal College of Curepipe, he obtained a scholarship to study Electrical Engineering at a reputed university in Bangalore, India.

After obtaining his bachelor's degree there, he pursued his studies with a postgraduate degree in Electrical Engineering at the world-renowned Imperial College in London, UK. Mr Retnasami quickly made his mark as a brilliant electrical engineer at the CEB. and, after just a few years, was promoted to Deputy General Manager and eventually to General Manager. He retired from the CEB in 1993 at the age of 65. Mr Retnasami is survived by his wife Diegy, daughter, Sobhana and son, Kamaraj Retnasami. The family would like to thank everyone present at Mr Raju Retnasami's funeral on August 20th.
