The Harare Agricultural Show, Zimbabwe's premier farming exhibition, has so far experienced reduced criminal activity in its first two days of trading compared to last year.

Harare police spokesperson Inspector James Sabau yesterday said only two cases - one involving fraud and the other theft - were recorded on Tuesday. He said in the fraud incident, a junior employee attempted to gain entry into the showgrounds using his employer's exhibitor's card but was intercepted by alert gate marshals.

In the second incident, conmen hoodwinked two young children to surrender their cellphones after convincing them that they would get them back on bringing their parents.

The thieves removed the Simcards and handed them back to the children before disappearing with the two cellphones - a Sagem and a Nokia. No arrests have been made.
