Uganda: Twenty Four Seven

Marlon Asher was the surprise guest performer at the Album launch of the new (reggae) kid-on-the-block Henry Tigan at Sabrina's Pub last Friday.

But this Ganja Planter singer will forever remember his first night in Kampala, especially when local star Bebe Cool went hysterical over his presence and even ended up assaulting Bettina Tumuhaise, KFM's music scheduler and the representative of Suudi Entertainment International in Uganda, the firm Bebe Cool contracted to bring Asher to Uganda.

Fortunately, the security detail hired to ensure that everything and everyone stays in line rescued Bettina from the hands of Bebe. That however did not stop the insults and threats he hurled at her and Suudi Lukwago, the boss of Suudi International. All this drama occurred in the presence of Asher.

A source at Serena Hotel, where Asher spent the night, told 24-Seven that on arrival, Asher assured Suudi that he had changed his mind about performing at Bebe Cool's concert tonight. "He even gave back the money that Bebe Cool had paid to Suudi and told Suudi he wouldn't perform alongside such an undisciplined artiste," the source said.

Suudi tried to convince Asher but the artiste said he would instead fly back home (Trinidad and Tobago) on Saturday morning and return on Wednesday as highlighted in the contract.

When he arrived in T&T, Asher sent e-mail (which 24-Seven has seen) to Suudi that included tough conditions for Bebe Cool to observe if he (Asher) is to perform at his album launch. Some of the conditions include that the artiste (Asher) would not appear anywhere together with Bebe Cool; Bebe Cool should not go close to where Asher will be staying and he should not at any moment tamper with Asher's security.

However, we have been informed that the issue of the two appearing together has been resolved. The proof of this is that the two artistes have been visiting radio stations (since Wednesday) to say that they would perform together at the concert. But on Tuesday afternoon, Suudi gave Bebe Cool a two-hour ultimatum to pay the balance of Shs18.7m or else risk missing Asher at his album launch.

Panicked, Bebe Cool signed a cheque for the amount but Suudi rejected it saying he wanted cash. Bebe Cool brought the money on Wednesday evening. In a related development, Suudi has dragged Bebe Cool to court accusing him of assault.

While Bebe Cool's and Suudi's lawyers met at Kati Kati Restaurant to resolve the issues (out of court) on Monday evening, Bebe Cool planted a hot punch on Suudi's face. Suudi's lawyers reported this assault to Jinja Road Police Station.

Talk of enjoying the show or rather the show down!

Chameleone to perform at BBA 2 House

Seven must be Jose Chameleone's lucky number! This year - 2007, is without doubt the artiste's most successful year - career wise.

With a legion of fans from around the world singing his praises and calling him the East African (new) legend on his My Space page, Chameleone has evidently rocked more than just the few states where he has preformed during his on-going USA and Europe tour that kicked off in July (this year).

Multichoice invite

But that is not what this is about: Even before his July -October world tour is concluded, Multichoice is in talks with the crooner (via e-mail) asking him to perform at one of the Big Brother Africa 11 eviction parties in South Africa.

In an e-mail, a copy of which 24-Seven has seen, Multichoice requested Chameleone to be one of the artistes to perform on this big African platform on

Sunday, October 28.

Angella Katatumba on Voice of America

Slowly but strategically, Angella Katatumba is walking to the top of this game that is Uganda's music business. She started off identifying her music with charitable initiatives like the 'For You Gulu' project in Uganda.

After touching base with that one, she moved across the border with that Forgiveness song that targeted Rwandans affected by genocide, for which she was invited to perform during this year's genocide commemoration. And it is with this strategy that Angela has been able to garner interviews with major media houses.

After appearing on CNN's Inside Africa Programme, Ms. Katatumba last Wednesday featured on Straight Talk Africa, a proramme hosted by Shaka Ssali on the Voice Of America where she talked about her charity projects, her music career and future. And Angella is one of the musicians that have been lined up to brace this year's annual UNAA Convention slated to take place in San Francisco this weekend.

Barbie's sister joins music

Maybe Barbara Itungo a.k.a Barbie (The Ghetto first lady)  didn't just marry into music. Maybe this Music, dance and drama graduate has it running through her own family? 24-Seven has been reliably informed that Barbie's little sister- Brenda Kijagye, a second year Community Psychology student at Makerere University, perhaps has her focus on breaking into the music industry.

We have learnt that Barbie encouraged her sister to join the new band led by Western Uganda's new talent, Doris, who was Kijagye's music teacher at Bweranyangi Girls School in Bushenyi.

And word from the Fire Base headquarters in Kamwokya is that it was Bobi Wine's advice for Kijagye to first join Doris' band before she joins the Fire Base Crew. Apparently, Kijagye is already in studio recording songs. Watch this space.
