Burundi: Bujumbura Dirtied By Community Work

31 August 2007

Bujumbura — The city of Bujumbura is still not clean despite the weekly execution of community's works that were initiated by the President of the Republic almost two years ago.

Piles of garbage are still amassed near all markets of Bujumbura including the central market.

The services in charge of removing the garbage are unable to do their service because of lack of material means. After those who still do the community's works have cleared ditches they garbage stays in roads to rot there. Streets in quarters are destroyed by the same works that are performed with no motivation by people who lack the know-how in this domain.

Since the initiation of the community's works, organisational failures were noticed as these works seemed to be rather drudgeries. Except the President of the Republic, his ministers and some members of the parliament, these works are now done by the house boys and those who are still in need of official papers.
