Zimbabwe/Equatorial Guinea: Dynamos, Caps United Clash in Challenge Match

Harare — Premiership soccer giants Dynamos and CAPS United will resume their rivalry when they meet in a $350 million Prime and Standby Power Supplies Challenge match at the Glamis Arena at Harare's Showgrounds this afternoon.

The match has been arranged by the National Soccer Supporters of Zimbabwe in honour of the visiting Equatorial Guinea President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.

Mbasogo will officially open the Harare Agricultural Show today and is expected to watch part of the match between Harare soccer giants Dynamos and CAPS United in the challenge match. According to the match's co-ordinator, Eddie "Mboma" Nyatanga, the winning team will walk away with more than $50 million.

"As you know, Zimbabwe is currently enjoying some good relationships with Equatorial Guinea and we (the ZNSSA) felt that as a sign of respect of the visiting Equatorial Guinea President Mbasogo, we should arrange a soccer match between two of the country's top sides -- Dynamos and CAPS United -- as part of the entertainment of the day," Nyatanga said. The match will be sponsored by a Harare electrical engineering consultancy firm, Prime and Standby Power Supplies, which is owned by Harare businessman, Engineer George Maniwa. Nyatanga said they secured a $350 million sponsorship package from Prime and Standby Power Supplies and apart from the prize money, some of the money will go towards meeting the two teams' expenses as they prepare for today's match.

Dynamos secretary, Brian Kashangura, said yesterday said that they would field their strongest side for today's match.

"We've agreed to play CAPS United in this challenge match and although we have a tough league match against Lengthens on Sunday at Gwanzura, we are still going to field a strong side in this match.

"As you know, whenever we meet CAPS United, we don't treat them lightly, be it in a league match, challenge or friendly game. "We treat every game we play against CAPS United seriously. So, I would like to urge all the soccer-loving people of Harare to come in their thousands to watch this match at the Glamis Arena," Kashangura said.

A spokesman of Prime and Standby Power Supplies said yesterday that they felt privileged to be part and parcel of this year's Harare Agricultural Show by providing the public some entertainment in the form of the challenge match between Dynamos and CAPS United.

"We also hope that President Mugabe and his honourable guest from Equatorial Guinea, President Mbasogo, will spare some of their time after the official opening of the show to watch part of this match," he said.
