Zimbabwe: All Set for Official Opening

31 August 2007

Harare — The Harare Agricultural Show will be officially opened today by the visiting President of Equatorial Guinea, Mr Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.

Prior to the official opening, Mr Mbasogo, who will be accompanied by President Mugabe and senior Government officials, will tour stands in the Exhibition Park before delivering his keynote address in the Glamis Arena.

He will also present awards to the best exhibitor, best display stand and various other awards. Harare Agricultural Society spokesperson Mr Daniel Muhau said all was set for the opening and encouraged people to attend in thousands.

"We encourage people to come in their thousands as the official opening will be graced by the guest of honour, President Mbasogo, and his counterpart, President Mugabe," Mr Muhau said. He said after the official opening, there would be a challenge match between two Harare giants CAPS United and Dynamos in the Glamis Arena.

The match will be sponsored by Prime Standby Power Supply. Prime Standby Power Supply managing director Mr George Maniwa said the company pledged $300 million towards the event. "The match will see the winner walk away with $50 million cash while the loser will also get $50 million," Mr Maniwa said.

He also said the firm, which is an electrical engineering consultancy company, would sponsor the event annually. Today children in school uniform will be allowed free entry into the Exhibition Park.
