Namibia: Arts Council to Be Launched

Windhoek — The formal launch of the National Arts Council will be held next Wednesday at the National Arts Gallery at which occasion the arts fraternity will also be invited to apply for project funding. This was announced by the NAC's administrator, M'kariko Amagulu, yesterday in an Art/Life interview.

A number of art promoters and artists have been invited to attend the event that will be officially launched by the Minister of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture, John Mutorwa. "Though the statutory body was already established in 2005 by an Act of Parliament, the board of directors have decided to fittingly launch it next week Wednesday at 18h00 with a lively entertainment programme consisting of music, dance and poetry," administrator Amagulu said.

Some of the cultural groups that will take part in the launch include Ongoma, the Maiteko Cultural Group, Ondunga as well as poets Lize Kubersky and Sibali Ghobetsi.

Ace-musician Elemotho will provide some solo music, something he is extremely good at.
