Eritrea: Gash-Barka Region - Efforts Underway to Promote Tourism

The branch office of the Ministry of Tourism in Gash-Barka region disclosed that efforts are being stepped up to make the rich natural resources and historical sites, as well as the culture and tradition of the people in the region.

The head of the branch office, Mr. Amine Tewelde, indicated that an information center has been set up in Tessenei sub-zone so as to enable tourists get easy access to information about the existing tourism potentials.

Gash-Barka region is endowed with spectacular landscape and diverse wildlife including crocodiles, elephants, and tigers, among others. It also comprises almost all of the nation's ethnic groups and the historic trenches in the days of the armed struggle.

Mr. Amine further called on government institutions, national associations and communities to make due contribution in promoting the tourism sector, particularly domestic tourism.
