Lagos — Despite an attempt by some Nigerians who sent petitions to the Metropolitan police to close the Nigeria corner on account of false allegations of 3000 illegal immigrants congregating at the Nigeria corner Nigeria still had a wonderful outing courtesy of Obalende Suya and Lagos State Government Unlike last year the Nigeria corner was at oxford gardens.
AIT's DAAR, was also on the same street.Lagos state had a float that was accompanied by Eyo masquerade and dancers put together by Sir Peter Badejo Obe.Nigerians who were allover the place were pleased to see a corner of their own and wre pleased to be served Nigerian meals at the suya corner.About 15000 Nigerians were at oxford gardens.Skye bank the offical sponsors of the Lagos state had billboeads and staff on hand to handle the large number of visitors to the stand.Another sponsor Access bank had their banner up there too.Obalende suya was sponsored by Virgin Nigeria and BENTV who had a live broadcast from the corner.Prime time Africa also had a live broadcast from the corner.Bellview Airlines led by Ego and some ladies were all over the place sharing flyers so did Mama cass restaurant.Ait launched their UK channel from there.OVATION magazine hosted the after party for Lagos state at Mama Calabar.
With 2million revellers two non-fatal shootings and a knifing this years festival has been described as a huge success.
Ikechi UKo the publisher of ATQ who was part of the Lagos state delegation says that with 500,000 visitors from outside UK the carnival is a huge tourism event and was impressed by the wonderful presence of Nigeria through Lagos state who was led by the newly appointed commissioner of tourism Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi.
It was the senator who settled the quarrell among the Nigerians that enabled Nigeria to have a corner.
