Eritrea: President Holds Talks With Sudanese Government Delegation

President Isaias Afwerki today received and held talks with a Sudanese government delegation headed by the Minister of Energy, Dr. Awad Ahmed Ajaz.

Noting that relations between Eritrea and Sudan is a historic and strategic one, that is deeply rooted in the ties of both peoples, the President asserted that a conducive atmosphere of trust and cooperation has now been reached through overcoming temporary obstacles.

He further underlined that the role Eritrea has played in promoting comprehensive peace in the Sudan is logical as a neighbor, and that it would make due contribution towards resolving the Darfur issue, which is being complicated by external interference.

Indicating that Eritrea is ready to develop relations in the domains of trade and investment, President Isaias expressed conviction that such relations are a solid basis for lasting relations between the two countries.

The Sudanese Minister of Energy, on his part, conveyed the appreciation of the Sudanese government and that of President General Omar Hassan Al-Beshir for the role Eritrea has played in promoting a peaceful solution to the East Sudan issue. He went on to elaborate that the Sudan wishes Eritrea to continue the constructive role it has been playing to bring about a peaceful solution to the Darfur issue.

Moreover, Dr. Awad Ahmed Ajaz pointed out that at a time when the Sudan is heading to peace and stability and concentrating on development, it is ready to enhance Eritrean-Sudanese relations in different trade and investment sectors.
