Bujumbura — The price of beers brewed in Brarudi have risen 7 percent today. This increase, which does not affect lemonades brewed in this plant, was caused by a rise in the price of sugar, petrol, water, and electricity as well as the devaluation of the local currency.
The price of Primus beer has risen from 600 to 650 francs while that of Amstel beer has risen to 850 francs. The price of beer was reduced by the head of State early last year.
This increase follows the official increase in the price of sugar that was implemented last month by the local sugar factory.
During talks between the government of Burundi and the IMF delegation, the second Deputy-President of the Republic, Mr Gabriel Ntisezerana, was given the conditionality of increasing the prices of products of the first necessity in order to improve the finances of Burundi which are in a extremely grievous state.
This increase is also decided at a time when the prices all food products are increasing.
