Uganda: Attorney General Defends Bride Price

Kampala — THE Attorney General, Khiddu Makubya, has said bride price is intended to show appreciation to a woman's parents for taking care of their daughter.

He was responding to a Constitutional Court petition by members of Mifumi, a local NGO, on July 9, seeking to abolish bride-price. He denied that the custom, widely practiced in many societies in Uganda, degrades women.
