Uganda: Over 900 Students Register At Mutesa I Royal University

Mengo — Over 900 students have registered to pursue various courses at Mutesa I Royal University. The Vice Chancellor, Prof Munakukaama Nsereko, made the announcement to the press last week in Kampala.

He said the registration going on at the Masaka main campus and at the Kampala campus at Buganda Royal Institute in Mengo. The institute will focus on science, agriculture and social sciences. Registration of students began last month after the National Council for Higher Education offered the university a provisional license allowing it to begin operations, starting October this year.

"We want to set an all-round university that will benefit different categories of people," Prof Nsereko said. He said the tuition ranges from Shs400,000 to Sh700, 000 per semester.

However, the Council Chairman, Mr John Ssebaana Kizito said the university still lacks about Shs700 million to effectively begin operations.
