Uganda: Marketing Country Through Art

Kampala — NUWA Nnyanzi, probably Uganda's finest batik painter, is in Europe and the US to promote the country's art.

Nnyanzi has visited different places and held exhibitions, workshops and lectures. In St Lucien, Normandie, northern France, Nnyanzi presented 30 original batik paintings, 20 lithographs, 11 serigraphs, 20 batiks by Dick Muliika and 10 oils and lithographs by the late Vincent Massudy. He also presented crafts and jewellery.

Nnyanzi also conducted a batik workshop at Gems of Africa Fine Art & Sculpture Gallery (GOA) and showcased his work in Portland. He also plans to introduce Ugandan art to Woodcuts Gallery & Framing in the US and to have an exchange programme between his studio and American art students.

Nnyanzi dazzled his audience with his colourful work. His style, fraught with images of women dancing to the Bakisimba rhythm, of men gathered around a pot of beer, of faces drowned in thought and of women warmly embracing their children, sent a message of warmth, togetherness and life.

From Portland City to Seattle and Kansas, Nnyanzi's work impressed the viewers.
