Uganda: Daily Monitor Trains 200 Teachers in Newspaper Use

Mbale — In bid to improve the quality of primary education, Daily Monitor has extended its programme - Newspapers in Education (NIE) to the eastern region.

Over 200 teachers on Thursday received training in how to use newspapers in class as a way of improving creativity and quality of education.

Creative Media Concepts International conducted the training. It is also aimed at helping teachers learn how to use NIE as an instructional aid. The teachers were drawn from the districts of Soroti, Kumi, Mbale, Tororo, Bukwo, Busia, Kapchorwa and Bukedea.

According to the programme Coordinator Young Readers, Mr David Wangolo, Daily Monitor is committed to improving the quality of education in the country as well as the reading culture. He said after the training, schools would get free copies of the newspaper every Monday, when the education pullout is published.
