Windhoek — THE Namibian Police have renewed their appeal to the public to donate puppies that can be trained as Police sniffer dogs to detect narcotics or explosives.
The Police are looking for three specific breeds - Labrador, Malinois (Belgian) or German Shepherd puppies.
The Nampol Dog School is experiencing a severe shortage of dogs.
South Africa normally supplies SADC countries with trainable dogs, but that country is also experiencing a shortage in the run-up to the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
There have been a couple of responses by the public but unfortunately only three of the dogs offered were suitable for training.
Two of them are Malinois Shepherds donated by Steve and Christophine Katjiuanjo.
They are now four months old and under police care.
