The confederation of Burundi's trade unions (COSYBU) has written a letter to President Nkurunziza in which they ask him to fix a deadline for the implementation of the increase of civil servant's salaries.

This increase of salaries amounts to 34percnt and was promised by the head of State, Mr Pierre Nkurunziza, on Labour Day in May of this year. The confederation also demands a retroactive pay for this increase as its effective implementation was due in month July. This demand is made at time when prices of many products have risen making it hard for many civil servants to make the ends meet with their meagre salaries which often come late or does not come at all.

The government struggled hard to find money to pay the civil servants for this month. The Chance that the civil servants will get paid for the coming month is very minimum as donors have refused to disburse funds to a government that they consider unstable and dogged by cases of corruption, grafting and economic embezzlement.

Ambassador Jahan Lovald, the head of the Peace Building Commission in Burundi promised last week that he is going to plead for Burundi at the International Monetary Fund after he found that Burundian population's hopes with regard to the current situation are fading compared to last year.
