Luanda — The National Union of Plastic Artists (UNAP) will organise on 08-10 October, here, the first National Meeting on Plastic Arts, with the objective of debating the adequate mechanism for the progress of plastic arts in the country.
With the theme "Angolan plastic arts moving towards development", the event will take place in Luanda's Congresses Hall, under the aegis of the Culture Ministry.
In an interview to Angop, UNAP's secretary general, António Bastos, informed that the promotion of this event has to do with the interest of artists in evaluating the current state of the Fine Arts in Angola, to define strategies for the plastic arts, identifying problems that affect the artists, as well as to promote greater unity among the artists and the education of society about the Fine Arts.
Matters related to the organisation of cultural events, research, critical analysis, integration of Angola in the present context of African arts and the world, are also part of the themes to be discussed by the plastic artists, anthropologists, historians, journalists and people connected to culture.
UNAP was founded in 1977 with the objective of congregating plastic artists, promoting and divulging works and creators of art in Angola. With about 200 member artists, the rise of UNAP is often credited to the engagement of plastic artist like Victor Teixeira "Viteix", Rui de Matos and Henriques Abranches, who are already dead.
