Johannesburg — THE stage could be set in SA for a clash of Indian steel giants Tata and Arcelor Mittal SA after it emerged yesterday that the trade and industry department was in talks with Tata to build a state-funded steel plant in the country.
This comes after Business Day last month reported that the government had launched a study into the viability of building a steel plant as part of its industrial strategy, to take on the former state-owned Iscor -- now Arcelor Mittal SA -- head-on over excessive steel prices.
