Efforts undertaken by the interior minister, General Evariste Ndashimiye, to reconcile Aloys Rubuka, the leader of Uprona with his assistant Antoine Cishahayo have failed. These two leaders of Uprona cannot agree on a date to hold a meeting aimed at finding a solution to the central issue that is dividing the party.

Aloys Rubuka indicates that this meeting will be held on 15 September 2007, but his assistant Antoine Cishahayo rejects this proposed date on the grounds that it conflicts with the community service scheduled for the same day. Antoine Cishahayo is opposed to the dismissal of the current First Vice-President of the Republic, Dr. Martin Nduwimana from the Uprona party.

Nduwimana's dismissal is at the heart of the trouble that this party is facing. Since this dismissal, security at the main office of Uprona has been disturbed by factionalists of various leaders.
