Ghana: Divine Healers Church On Fallen Moral Standards

13 September 2007

The National Vice Chairman of the Children and Redeemers Movement (CRM) of Divine Healers Church, Pastor Prince Dako has observed that it will be proper and beneficial for the Church to join in the war against the fall in the moral standards of the Ghanaian youth. He noted that viewing of pornographic films by the youth, drug abuse and the increase in profane songs among others in the society posed a great danger to the future of the youth.

He made the call in an interview with The Chronicle at Israel, a suburb of Accra, when the CRM of the Divine Healers Church opened a three-day Children's Convention over the weekend under the theme "Treasure in you".

According to the Pastor, children are easily influenced by their peers and with things they see or frequently hear around them. Considering the way society is getting itself buried in

seeing nothing wrong with the kind of films, the appalling form of dressing of young girls in the society among others, the situation really called for the churches to come in and remedy the situation toward the proper growth of the child.

Pastor Dako noted that in view of this moral down trend among the youth, the church had to target them through these Conventions where they could be educated against these social vices. "We educate them against drug abuse, pre-marital sex and the general unhealthy things in society and we believe that it is the best way to contribute to the moral up bringing of the young ones".

Really, sex education is very healthy and should be encouraged for the children to know the dangers associated with it especially, by letting them know that unsafe sex is the main medium through which the HIV/AIDS virus is transmitted, he noted.

He said the Divine Healers Church also believed that because children were influenced by their peers, it would also be possible that what they were taught at the Convention would be extended to their peers through conversation with those in their communities and with friends at school.

He pointed out that great contributions should be made by pastors in addition to what teachers taught the children at school towards the attainment of good and acceptable moral standards of these young ones.

According to the Pastor, through the association these children had during the Convention and the type of education they received it would bring out the best in them.

Children evangelize through conversation by telling others what they learn about Christ and the good message He carries for the world.
