Nairobi — Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) has opened its second 12-hour branch and announced plans to open at least five more branches by year-end.
The new Westgate branch, located at Westgate Shopping Mall, will be open from 8am to 8pm from Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays and public holidays.
The Westgate branch is the third branch that DTB has opened inside a shopping mall or supermarket, and it becomes the second branch that opens for extended banking hours similar to the Tesco supermarket branch on Tom Mboya Street opened early this year.
Speaking during the launch, the bank's Managing Director, Ms Nasim Devji, urged business and area residents to take advantage of the services the bank has on offer.
DTB decided to open a full service branch with longer banking hours to increase accessibility to its customers as part of the bank's retail strategy, aimed at bringing services closer to its customers.
"The Westgate Shopping Mall is a prestigious mall considering the location and the target market. By locating a branch here, we are giving our customers added convenience in secure premises with ample parking," said Devji.
She said DTB intends to upscale its operations in East Africa over the next two years from the current 13 to 40 branches, with at least 20 to 25 branches being opened in Kenya and the rest in Tanzania and Uganda.
The Nairobi Stock Exchange listed company recently announced plans to float a second rights issue as part of its recapitalisation strategy.
Through its affiliates in the East African region, the Diamond Trust Bank Group also has branches in Dar-es-Salaam, Mwanza and Arusha in Tanzania and in Kampala, Uganda.
More recently the bank embarked on a rebranding process to give it a regional outlook that has seen it adopt a new a new logo and corporate colours, whilst retaining the name Diamond Trust Bank.
