President Isaias Afwerki said that the Eritrean people's support to the Somali people is consistent and historical, as well as a legal and moral obligation. He made the remarks today at the closing session of the Somali Congress for Liberation and Reconstitution.

The President noted that when the Somali people embarked on reconstituting and reconstructing their country in 2006 and were making headway, those parties who don't wish Somalia's reconstitution did not only impede the progress but also committed invasion against the country. He further indicated that the Somali people's opposition to the invader that undermined the reconstruction process is a legitimate right of self-defense.

Stating that Somalia's reconstitution is to the benefit of not only the Somali people but also that of the region, President Isaias underlined that although some parties do not welcome the initiative which the Somali brothers have taken to reconstitute their nation, the Somali people are the decisive ones, as it is a historical axiom that a people who have risen up to achieve their goal are sure to emerge victorious.

He went on to explain that the conspiracies being weaved by external forces to incite conflict among the Somali people following failure to attain their goal after defeat in battle are doomed to end up in fiasco. President Isaias elaborated that the invasion of Somalia on the contrary rallied the Somali people behind the national cause, and that the Asmara Congress for Liberation and Reconstitution of Somalia is an outcome of it.

The President stressed that the current war in Somalia resulting in huge destruction of life, when viewed against the peace and stability that prevailed in the country before the invasion, amply proves the erroneous nature of the adventure.

Noting that resorting to more acts of adventure instead of correcting one's errors is purely the behavior of gamblers; President Isaias underscored the need for the parties bent on committing still worse errors to mend their ways.
