Kumasi — A KUMASI-BASED radio presenter Mr. Paa Kwesi Wilson has suggested for the consideration in Parliament of the passage of a Solar Energy and Rain Water Harvesting Law.
He noted that since industries and factories could no longer rely on the insufficient source of power there was the need to consider this law.
According to him, industries required maximum voltage of power and water for their operations.
Paa Kwesi of Kessben FM and Public Relations Officer of Save Our Waters - Ghana, an NGO, made the suggestion during the Regional Parliamentary Forum held in Kumasi last Tuesday.
The radio journalist indicated that the power rationing exercise which brought about low productivity and damage to equipment and machines, had affected a lot of factories.
According to him our forefathers exhibited a great sense of responsibility by adopting the harvesting of rain water, that is, the habit of storing enough water for domestic purposes.
This practice is absent in our daily chores as a result of the ever present pipe borne water supply.
"Rain water harvesting is not a common practice among residents of multi purpose buildings and industries" and indicated that most new sites and communities did not have access to pipe borne water while others used it for washing cars as well as watering gardens and flowers.
The first Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Freddy Blay commended Paa Kwesi for the idea of a solar energy law which he said was unique and therefore would be tabled for deliberations on the floor of Parliament for consideration.
