Kampala — KAMPALA City Council has no land titles of over 70 public schools in the city, the City Education officer has said. Ms Anne Galiwango said of the 84 schools under KCC, it had surveyed and demarcated boundaries in only 10 schools.
In an interview with Daily Monitor on Monday, Ms Galiwango said encroachers had entered school land due to lack of land titles and clear boundaries.
"We [education department] have always asked council to survey the schools' land in vain. We also wrote to the Ministry of Education demanding that all schools' located in commercial zones be fenced off."
The remarks come in the wake of loss of land by many public schools to encroachers while others are completely demolished.
Ms Galiwango cited the most affected as Katwe, Nakivubo Blue and Nakivubo settlement Primary Schools.
The City Secretary for Works, Mr Abdul Mayanja, said KCC lacks funds to contract surveyors to secure titles for its properties.
