Ethiopia has received 12.4 million USD from Spain MDG Achievement Fund for the country's programs in the areas of Gender equality and women's empowerment and environment and climate change.

"The fund represents a land mark agreement between the Spanish government and UNDP to programme Euros 528 million over the next four years through the UN system, towards key MDGs," the Embassy of Spain in Addis Ababa and the United Nations Country Team {UNCT}said in a joint statement.

Apart from Gender and environment, the Spain MDG Fund is accessible through three other thematic areas: Economic Governance; youth employment and migration; cultural diversity and development, according to the statement.

The indicative budget allocations for Ethiopia in the gender and environment windows are 8.4 million USD and 4 million USD respectively, said the statement which also indicated that the release of funds would be contingent on the elaboration of high quality joint programmes that ensure greater consultations with government counterparts.
